Will’s Entry: I am so smart – S M R T

OK, folks – it’s time for another $1,000,000 idea and this time it’s a Christmas one!  I think someone should build a Christmas tree base/stand that rotates.  I think people would enjoy a tree that turns so that the entire tree is enjoyed.  It would look pretty and pleasing when seen through a window.  On a practical note, think of how even you could make the lights by holding the string and lowering it slowly while the tree rotated!  Also, no more struggling to decorate the “back” of the tree when no one sees it.

I know what you all are thinking – won’t the lights plugged into the wall be an issue.  Well . . . the stand plugs into the wall and like a power strip, the lights plug into the stand!  Thus the tree and the lights rotate as one.  This is one dang good idea that I wish I knew how to market.  If anyone has any suggestions (or seen it already) . . .

Another thing that I’ve realized about Christmas is how they put the lights on the trees like this.

Contrary to common belief, people DON’T order custom lights and measure the branches and they DON’T go to the end and cut off the rest of the lights!  They go to the end and double back!  OK, this last section has been dripping with sarcasm.  I’m not sure if sarcasm is the right word, because I didn’t realize these things until yesterday when I saw our lights here at TNI up close.  I’m Will and I’m the dumbest genius ever . . .

  1. Oh Will. If only I had known you struggled with that. I would have told you they doubled back with the christmas lights. It only took you what 29 years to figure it out :)

  2. Yeah one of my friends does the lights every year for temple square… he says a whole tree takes you at least a day if not 2!

  3. Yeah, but Will, did they tell you that the CUTTING part actually does occur….when they can’t get the darn light OFF the branches that they doubled back on?! I used to love to decorate my trees this way, and had to cut my share of lights off. OK, I didn’t HAVE to, I got a tad impatient and SNIP!!!

  4. Hate to break it to you Will but your idea has been taken. My neighbor has a rotating tree with lights and all. I’ll have to ask her where she got it. I do give you kudos though.

  7. As luck would have it, I was just at a friend’s house yesterday and they had a rotating tree! http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100649179&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=100649179&cm_mmc=1hd.com2froogle-_-product_feed-_-D28X-_-100649179
Of course, not sure if they’ve got something like this for a real tree. =)
