Will’s Entry: When you wish upon a MILLION DOLLARS!

7 Oct

Oh, it’s time for another $1,000,000 idea!  I’ve got 10 minutes left to kill before work ends and thought I’d share this one.  It came courtesy of our visit to Disneyland last week.

Here’s the idea:  When you check in, you can buy a special card for yourself (mainly for kids).  Before boarding each ride, there would be somewhere to scan this card.  At the end of the day, go to a special map-printing booth.  For a mere $5 (or more depending on the size), have a personalized map of the mark made for you with your date, name, etc.  On the map, it would indicate which rides you went on and how many times!  You could even time-stamp it so they could re-create the trip in their head.  Now you’ve got a personalized souvenier that will help you remember your trip a little better.  It’s a bit nerdy, I know but I think it would be a hit.  Kids could create their own collection over the years and see how the park and their experiences changed as they grew.  What kid wouldn’t enjoy gloating to their cousin that they went on Pirates of the Carribean not twice, but THREE times!

In the future, I could even envision giving a GPS to rent out.  Then you could even trace their entire days movements.  Maybe that would be more hassle than its worth, but I REALLY like my first idea!

Coming from someone who used to work at Disneyland…I think that’s an AWESOME idea!! That would be so cool! People would totally buy it, and Disney would charge at LEAST $10 for it! If not more!

Yeah, I think they would charge more, but think of the different possibilities. You could have different themes on the outside: Halloween, Christmas, Princess, a specific movie, etc. I’d probably see if I could set up kiosks so that people could just have their card scanned, swipe a credit card, and pick their options/sizes. I’d still have a booth, but this would be for those who know what they want and want it quickly.

Until then..get on their website and pretend you are going on vacation there and they will send you a fancy looking personalized map with your family name on it with the attractions that you are interested in highlighted. They will do it for each individual park ie: Disney Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom etc. It is a fun keepsake. For free!
